F*** My Life - Cut&Paste
  • F*** My Life - Cut&Paste NYC
I was one of four designers selected to compete in the motion design category at Cut&Paste NYC. We were all given the theme of FML aka "F*** My Life" to create a 15 second video. We had eight hours to complete our work which was then presented and judged on Friday, October 28th, 2011 at the Angel Orensanz Foundation. What a BLAST! The event was so much fun! For one night, it felt like being a graphic designer was cool (which it totally is, right?) and it was exhilarating to see a crowded room full of people cheering for the pen tool, extruded polygons, and eased keyframes.
Congrats go out to Stu Chudy for murdering it in motion design and going home with the win. Shout outs to Kris Holbrook and JPEG (Juan Pablo Elias Gomez) for their respective wins in 2D and 3D.

I wanted to capture that moment when we realize our lives are going from bad to really f*cking bad, but wanted to do it with a bit of humor. I bought a ugly green shirt at Goodwill that I cut up and then taped to the wall. I shot myself on this ghetto-rigged green screen on my iPhone 4 and then did a quick and dirty key and roto job on the footage. The coin and missile were modeled and animated in Cinema 4D and everything else was done in After Effects.
